Advantage: 1.Heat and Weather Resistant - EPDM O-rings can withstand a wide range of temperatures from -50C to +150C without cracking or becoming brittle. 2. Good ozone resistance - EPDM O-rings are resistant to ozone and ultraviolet light, making them suitable for outdoor applications exposed to sunlight. 3. Good Chemical Resistance - EPDM O-rings are resistant to most acids, bases and chemicals commonly found in industrial applications. 4. Low Compression Set - EPDM O-rings have low compression set, which means they retain their shape and elasticity even after prolonged compression. Shortcoming: 1.Not suitable for use with petroleum based fluids - EPDM o-rings are not recommended for use with petroleum based fluids as they will cause the rubber to swell and eventually fail. 2. Poor resistance to oil and grease – EPDM O-rings are not resistant to oil and grease, which can cause them to deteriorate over time. 3. Limited temperature range - EPDM O-rings are not suitable for high temperature applications above +150C as they will begin to degrade. 4. Limited Steam Resistance - EPDM O-rings are not recommended for applications involving high pressure steam as they may be damaged by hot water or steam.
